Check how easy your writing is to read.

Paste a post, email or script to get the Flesch Reading Ease score, the Flesch-Kincaid grade level, and the exact sentences dragging your score down.

How the readability score works

Flesch Reading Ease rates text from 0 to 100 using two things: average sentence length and average syllables per word. Higher is easier. Most web writing should land between 60 and 70, roughly what a 13 to 15 year old reads comfortably.

The Flesch-Kincaid grade level uses the same inputs to estimate the US school grade needed to follow the text. A grade of 8 or below reaches the widest audience.

  • 90 to 100: very easy, short sentences and simple words.
  • 60 to 70: plain English, the target for most blogs.
  • 30 to 50: difficult, typical of academic writing.
  • Below 30: very hard to read, even for experts.

How to raise your score

Readability formulas only measure length, so the fixes are mechanical: split long sentences, and swap long words for short ones where the meaning holds. The checker lists your longest sentences first so you know where to start.

  • Keep most sentences under 20 words.
  • Use one idea per sentence.
  • Prefer “use” to “utilize”, “help” to “facilitate”.
  • Break paragraphs after three or four sentences.

Readable writing makes better video

Text that scores well also narrates well: short sentences give a voiceover room to breathe. When your post reads cleanly, Blog2Video can turn it into a narrated video with almost no script editing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an account to use the readability checker?

Yes. The checker is free with a Blog2Video account. Sign in with Google and paste your text, no credit card required.

What is a good Flesch Reading Ease score?

For blogs, newsletters and marketing copy, aim for 60 or higher. Technical documentation often sits between 40 and 60, which is fine for an expert audience.

Is my text stored?

No. The score is calculated in your browser, so the text you paste never leaves your device.
